Learn how to make rich, sweet honey caramelized onions with this easy recipe. Perfect for burgers, pizzas, dips, and more. Includes tips and serving ideas!
Optional: 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar for added depth
Instructions
Heat the olive oil or butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Or set your Instant Pot to Saute.
Add the sliced onions and stir to coat them evenly in the oil or butter.
Cook the onions for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they soften and start to turn translucent.
Lower the heat to medium-low and add the honey, stirring to ensure the onions are coated evenly.
Continue cooking, stirring occasionally, for 20–25 minutes. If using an Instant Pot you can select "Slow Cook". Allow the onions to deepen in color, becoming golden brown and caramelized. Adjust the heat as needed to prevent burning.
Add a pinch of salt to enhance the flavor. If desired, stir in balsamic vinegar during the last 5 minutes of cooking for a tangy twist.
Once the onions are fully caramelized, remove them from the heat and let cool slightly before serving.
